so the other day I decided to cook some bacon. I found a really simple and easy recipe for cooking perfect bacon on Becky Higgin's Blog. She suggested using Pampered Chef's cookie sheet to cook the bacon, I did not have the cookie sheet so I thought I would compromise and use my Pampered Chef pizza stone instead. I thought I would line the bottom of the oven with tin foil to catch any of the bacon grease that would drip over the edge of the pizza stone (as it has no edge around the sides).
Well little did I now that tin foil in a new oven is not a good mix. The tin foil literally melted to the bottom of our new oven. I tried peeling and scraping the tin foil off, but it still didn't come off so I decided to google search how to clean it and here is what I found ...
"With the older models of self-cleaning ovens one could put aluminum foil on the bottom tray of the oven, but with the newer models there is a warning (hidden in the last line) of your booklet for models of stoves where aluminum foil should 'not' be used! Even though print in small and many consumers are complaining regarding their stoves and melted aluminum stuck to the bottom tray of their oven (nothing will get it off) all manufacturer do 'not' cover this problem under warranty."
"Non-stick aluminum foil has a teflon-like coating on it, and like all such chemicals, it melts and decomposes at the high-end of cooking temperatures, which is why the foil carries warnings about not using too high a heat."
"Once the tin foil has melted (fused) to the oven bottom there is no way to remove it. You will need to order & replace the oven bottom. Please review the operating instructions stating not to place tin foil in the oven."
I found lots of posts of suggestions on how to clean it using various chemicals, some say use the self-cleaning feature, some say NOT to use self-clean, but none of them say whether or not their method worked. I'm scared to try in fear that I will make it worse or waste my time scrubbing and scraping ...
Anyone out there have any suggestions???
* on a good note it did make really good bacon - cooked it perfectly!!!
